The league was established 12 years ago and introduces inner city youth, boys and girls between the ages of 8-12, to the game of hockey. The league works closely with the school teams to encouraging players to stay in school and develop their skills on and off the ice. The KHL committee organize the league, team and coaches. The club also supplies the equipment, ice rental, transportation and necessary insurance for the league to run effectively.
The program currently has teams running out of community schools. It targets children that would not normally have the opportunity to play hockey. The program operators track children for three years and assist them in getting into mainstream hockey programs. The children receive medals, t-shirts, team pictures etc. as well as awards for good behaviour.
